This battery powers the thermal camera or the trap. The battery will power the camera for at least 10 nights, or 30 nights in low power mode. We are currently testing how long the battery will power the trap for.
These batteries are refurbished Lime scooter batteries, kindly donated by Lime. This makes the batteries and chargers significantly cheaper with the added benefit of being environmentally friendly (through reuse). The price covers the the labour and parts to house the battery in a waterproof container, along with the added connectors and electronics, and shipping and handling. The batteries are refurbished in Christchurch, New Zealand.
The charger is a standard Lime Scooter charger and is sold separately. We also supply a battery meter, also sold separately. This is useful if you end up with lots of batteries and struggle to keep track of which ones are charged.
With the thermal camera the battery can be mounted to the wooden stake with pipe supports, or attached to the tripod, as shown in the images.
There are three variants of the battery with different connectors:
- JNICON: This is used for the DOC AI Camera and the latest version of the trap
- CNLINKO: This was used for the first version of the thermal cameras.
- Chogori: This was used for the first version of the trap.
If you have an old battery you can by an adaptor cable.
We recommend you have two batteries - so you can charge one while the other is being used and then swap them out when you visit the camera or trap.
