Remotely changing power mode and recording window on the DOC AI Cam

A new software release for the DOC AI Cam includes the ability to change power settings and the camera recording window remotely, along with a number of smaller bug fixes.

We have also put in place most of the software to enable the audio bird monitoring, but this is not quite ready to use yet. We will notify you when this is available.

Your camera should update itself when it next connects to the internet, or you can manually update the software (on the General Tab, press the Software Update button).

Remotely setting power mode and recording window

We've added some new functionality that allows you to remotely change the settings for your DOC AI Cams that have an internet connection. You can change the power mode and the recording window. You can do this on on current portal, or the new version of our portal. These settings will be updated next time your DOC AI Cam comes online.

We plan to allow other settings to be changed remotely

Changing settings on the current portal

Navigate to https://browse.cacophony.org.nz/, select your group and then select your camera name under the devices tab

Then select the about tab. You will see the device settings on the left. From here you can change your settings.

Changing settings on the new portal

Navigate to https://browse-next.cacophony.org.nz/, select your group and then select your camera name under the devices tab on the left hand side and click on your camera name.

From there, click on the Setup tab and there are options to change the power profile and to set the recording windows.

Bug fixes

There bug fixes in this release include:

  • Improvements in the reliability of the camera in low power mode
  • A change in the way the camera calibrates the thermal sensor which had been causing some corrupt recordings
  • A speed improvement to seeing the preview of the thermal camera.
