Installing new seals on the DOC AI Camera
We have had problems with water getting into some of the DOC AI cams. We suspect one of the ways this is happening is via the seal between the front and back of the case. To reduce the chances of this happening we have developed a new seal. We will be using this in new cameras and we will be sending out these seals to all existing owners of the DOC AI Cam.
This video shows you how to replace the seal.
The steps to do this are:
- Take the back off the camera
- Remove the old seal - using a knife to dig it out.
- Place the new seal on the camera back with the side with the groove facing up
- Press into place
- Re-attach the back of the camera and do the screws up until the seal is just starting to bulge out
This image shows the seal just starting to bulge out.
Other improvements
We expect that this new seal will make your camera water tight. That said, we are working on other tweaks to improve the water tightness. These include:
- Increasing the size of the seal over the switch and light on the front
- Adding an additional breather hole on the back of the case to reduce the pressure on the membrane seals from thermal expansion
- Vacuum casting, rather than 3D printing the cases. This will significantly reduce the labour required in painting the cases to make them waterproof.
