Enhanced bird monitor functionality
Early in the new year we will update the software on the DOC AI Cam and Sidekick apps. The main new features are:
- You can now remotely set the bird monitor functionality (if your camera has an internet connection)
- Audio recordings made on devices that don't have a connection can now be downloaded to Sidekick and uploaded to the Cacophony servers.
- The release includes the ability to run the AI on the camera to control a trap or interface with an alternative communications provider. This is not fully functional yet.
This release also includes a number of bug fixes.
Remotely setting the bird monitor functionality.
In the same way that you can set the recording window and power mode remotely, you can now set the audio recording mode remotely if your camera has an internet connection. This can be done on both the current and the new portal. Once you've selected your audio mode that the camera will change modes next time it connects to the Cacophony servers.
To do this on the current portal, navigate to the About tab for your camera and then select the audio mode
On the new portal you select your camera name under the devices tab and then click on the Setup tab. From there you can chose your audio mode.
Downloading audio recordings to Sidekick
If your DOC AI Cam has no internet connection then the recordings are stored on the device. Up until until this release, to get audio recordings off the device you would need to connect it to a Wi-Fi network. Now you can download these recordings to Sidekick and upload them to the Cacophony Servers from your phone. This works in the same way it does for thermal recordings.
Testing AI on the camera
As part of this release we have been testing the AI on the camera to activate a trap. We will share the results of this testing elsewhere. This is available on the camera with this release. We haven't finalised the configuration for this yet and will publish instructions on how to use this once that is ready.
The AI on the camera communicates with other devices, either via Bluetooth, or the auxiliary port. Auxiliary cables can be purchased here.
